Black Friday

Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving which is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season.
It refers to the beginning of the period in which retailers go from being in the red to being in the black. (i.e turning a profit).
Originally, September 24, 1969 was deemed Black Friday a day of stock market catastrophe.
But now with many sales being made over the internet many retailers offer early promotions to entice shoppers to purchase their Christmas goodies in advance.

One month till Christmas !!!!

Can you believe it Christmas is only one month away!
Every year I think I will get organised early but yet again I'm not. I'm glad we have all our Christmas range ready and think that perhaps I will be sending lots of flowers to my family and friends.
Here are some of my favourite bouquets from this years Festive collection.
Christmas Roses - A Christmas bouquet full of lush red roses and golden berries.

Scorpio Star Sign

Scorpios have a bad reputation for jealous streaks. Outwardly calm they have infinite stores of emotional energy and can easily erupt. On a positive note this energy and zest can lead to a determined approach to life which brings results.
The Scorpio has a mighty sting in its tail but because of the water element brings waves of feeling and emotion which in turn brings meaning and value to everyday occurrences in life.
Topaz is the birthstone of Scorpio and dark mysterious flowers hence the reason we recommend our Blue Flower Collection to send to Scorpions.
Some famous Scorpions are Martin Scorsese, Danny DeVito and Leonardo DiCaprio. Interestingly I would say they are very focused, emotional, complex but hypnotic with it !

Lest we Forget - an extract from Rudyard Kipling's poem.

Poppy_300
Far-called, our navies melt away;
On dune and headland sinks the fire:
Lo, all our pomp of yesterday
Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!
Judge of the Nations, spare us yet.
Lest we forget - lest we forget!

Trick of Treat weekend !

250px-Jack-o'-Lantern_2003-10-31

This weekend brought the celebration of Halloween on October 31st. It's amazing to see how many adults are getting into the whole thing, or was it just because it was a Saturday night and a good excuse to act silly ?

It is believed that Irish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America during Ireland's famine in the 1840's.
It's really a festival celebrating the end of the Summer and the start of the darker half of the year.
The ancient Celts believed that the border between this world and the next became thin on this dates which allowed spirits to pass through. It is believed that the need to ward off harmful spirits led to the wearing of costumes and masks.
Ancient Celts would place a skeleton on their window sill to represent the departed. Believing that the head was the most powerful part of the body lanterns were carved from turnip .
The name Jack-o-lantern traces back to the Irish legend of Stingy Jack, a greedy, gambling , hard drinking old farmer, who was condemned by the Devil for tricking him, to forever wander the earth at night with only a candle in a hollowed turnip for light.
When the Irish went to America they carved pumpkins because they were more easily available than turnip.
Trick of treat is for the children on Halloween. Children go from house to house asking for treats. The word trick means the children will perform some mischief on the homeowners if no treat is given.
This is my daughter as a corpse bride, it was such a struggle to find rotting roses for the bouquet!

Maybe this mask should stay on ?
