Easter Sunday - 4th April 2010

Easter eggs in tulips Easter is a Christian holiday. It is a holiday which celebrates the resurrection of Christ. According to Christian history, Jesus was crucified on a Friday and rose three days later—on Sunday. New elements such as the Easter Bunny and Easter egg hunts, Easter bonnets, egg painting and of course chocolate eggs have become part of the holiday's modern celebrations, and these aspects are often celebrated by many Christians and non-Christians alike.

The giving of spring flowers is also recognised as a suitable Easter time gift and with fresh spring flowers being abundant around Easter time, there are plenty of beautiful Spring Bouquets to choose from.

Saint Patrick's Day - Wednesday 17th March

This Wednesday - 17th March is Saint Patrick's Day!

Irish cloverIt is believed that Saint Patrick's Day has been celebrated in Ireland since before the 1600s. It was also believed to have served as a one-day break during Lent, the forty day period of fasting. This would involve drinking alcohol (something which became a tradition - Guinness anyone?) It was only in the mid-1990s that the Irish government began a campaign to use Saint Patrick's Day to showcase Ireland and its culture. The first Saint Patrick's Festival was held on March 17, 1996. In 1997, it became a three-day event, and by 2000 it was a four-day event. By 2006, the festival was five days long; over 675,000 people attended the 2009 parade. Overall last year's five day festival saw close to one million visitors that took part in the festivities that included concerts, outdoor theatre performances, and fireworks. Throughout the world, Saint Patrick's Day is widely celebrated by Irish and non-Irish alike, revellers ware green clothing, rivers and fountains are dyed green and the shamrock is displayed proudly  - it is widely seen as a day to celebrate individual links to Ireland and all things Irish.

Why not join in the  Saint Patrick's Day celebrations, ware something green, enjoy a Guinness or send some green themed flowers or shamrocks!

Mother's Day - 14th March 2010

This Sunday, March 14th, is Mother's Day. In the UK it is always celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent (the 40 day period leading up to Easter) originally to honour Mary, the mother of Christ. It is the day designated for us to show our love and appreciation for the special lady in our lives - the lady who nurtures and cares for us, the lady who guides you through infancy and supports you from child to adulthood, she is the lady who has sacrificed a great deal in her life for you.

Mother's Day is the day we should stop, think and remember the special lady in our life - whom without, we would not have been what we are today, it is a day to prove that all of her efforts towards making us complete have been worthwhile. It is important to ensure that your Mum feels special on this day, a day set aside just for her.

Mothering Sunday is a time for children to give flowers, cards and other presents to their mothers to express their love and gratitude.

By giving fabulous flowers to a magnificent Mum - you are certain to brighten her day!

As Stevie Wonder said; "Mama was my greatest teacher, a teacher of compassion, love and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love."
